Common Questions

Answers

Buying a living bird sight-unseen takes trust — here is everything you’d want to know before you do.

Ordering & Reservations

How do I buy a bird?
Two ways. Rare and seasonal birds are held by waitlist and [deposit] — you choose a breed, reserve your place, and we notify you as birds become available. In-stock birds, hatching eggs, and supplies check out directly. See Order & Reserve.
What is a reservation deposit, and is it refundable?
A deposit secures your place on a breed’s waitlist and is applied to your final balance. [Deposit amount and refund/transfer terms to be set.]
How long is the waitlist?
It varies by breed and season. Signature-tier birds hatch in limited numbers and can carry a wait of [weeks to months]; we give you an honest estimate when you join.
Can I visit before I buy?
[By appointment.] We welcome serious buyers to see the birds and the operation firsthand — reach out to arrange a time.
Do you offer a minimum or maximum order?
Chicks ship in a [3-bird minimum] so they stay warm in transit. There is no maximum, though rare breeds are limited by availability.

Shipping & Arrival

How are live birds shipped safely?
Day-old chicks travel via USPS Express, packed within 24 hours of hatch with a heat source and secure bedding. Chicks warm each other, which is why a [3-chick minimum] applies. Most arrive within 1–2 days.
What if a bird doesn’t survive transit?
Every shipment carries a [48-hour live-arrival guarantee]. Open and inspect your birds immediately; in the rare event of a loss, send clear photos within [the window] for [replacement or credit].
Which states can you ship to?
We ship to the 48 contiguous states under [NPIP certification, pending]. Some states restrict live-poultry imports or require permits; [Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico are case-by-case]. See Shipping & Guarantees.
How will I know when my birds are coming?
You’ll receive confirmation and tracking, plus the hatch/ship date. We recommend alerting your local post office so they hold the box for pickup on arrival.
Do you ship hatching eggs, and are hatch rates guaranteed?
Yes — eggs ship cushioned and marked. Because hatch success depends on transit handling and your incubation, hatching eggs are sold without a hatch guarantee.

Health & Biosecurity

Are your birds healthy and disease-tested?
Health is the standard the whole house is built on. Our flock is raised [NPIP / Pullorum-clean, pending], with [avian-influenza testing] and [vaccination] applied across every line.
Will new birds put my existing flock at risk?
We ship from a [monitored, tested] flock, and we strongly recommend every keeper quarantine new arrivals for [2–4 weeks] before introducing them — standard best practice regardless of source.
Are the birds vaccinated?
[Vaccination protocol — e.g. Marek’s — to be confirmed.] Vaccination status is noted on each listing so you can plan your biosecurity.
What certifications do you hold?
[NPIP certification is in progress.] We’ll display our number and testing status here once issued. See The Standard.

The Birds

How accurate is sexing?
Birds sold as pullets are sexed to approximately [90%+] accuracy, the industry standard. Straight-run orders are an unsexed mix. [Policy for mis-sexed birds.]
What age are the birds when I get them?
By form: day-old chicks, started pullets ([weeks/months]), or mature pairs. Each listing states the age offered.
Are your birds true to breed and show quality?
Every bird is bred to the standard and documented. Where a bird is show-grade versus pet/breeder quality, we say so plainly — and price accordingly.
Do you guarantee egg color or production?
Egg color is genetic and consistent by breed (e.g. Marans chocolate, Legbar blue). Individual production varies with age, diet, and season, so specific counts aren’t guaranteed.

After Arrival

What do I need ready before my birds arrive?
For chicks: a brooder, heat source, chick starter, and a shallow waterer. For older birds: secure housing and appropriate feed. Everything is on the Services & Supplies page, and we’re glad to advise.
Do you help if I run into problems?
Yes. Flock consultation — health assessments and hands-on guidance from Eduardo — is part of the house. See Services.
What should I feed them?
Matched to life stage: starter for chicks, grower, then layer or a high-protein ration for ornamental and game breeds. See Services & Supplies for guidance and options.

Policies

What is your guarantee, exactly?
[48-hour live-arrival guarantee] on every shipment, with [replacement or credit] for covered losses reported with photos in the window. [Full terms.]
What is your refund and cancellation policy?
[To be set — e.g. deposits transferable to a future hatch; cancellation terms.] Live animals carry different terms than goods; we’ll state them plainly here.
How do I reach a real person?
[Email / phone], and we answer. For anything urgent about a bird in transit or just arrived, [contact method] is fastest.
